The eastern part of the Elba between Rio Marina mines and Rio Elba green mountains is the most true and
wild; particular beaches and pleasant black iron shining sandy coves or white calcareous ones give way to a crystal clear sea with silent and inaccessible islets.
We are in a place of secular traditions and strong contrasts, of history and culture;
we are in the Elba of perfumes and officinal herbs, the Elba of iron and mines, of the National Park and the Mineral Park.
Time has stopped here.
The arrival at “Il Termine” is magic.
Let’s leave the provincial road which links up Rio Marina and Cavo pleasant seafaring village: a bar with its melancholy notice “no entry” seemingly denies us to enter the territory of the Mineral Park, but at the same time it flatters us and rouses our interest.
So we enter.A slow and sinuous road climbs the mountain crossing some
little ruby red lakes, old stopes, ancient powder magazines and suddenly
we are hanging between the sea and the sky. We go down over an heavenly upland, framed by never-ending dry walls, real and unexpected oases at the end of our small village among mineral burning and iron colours.
Going ahead we discover the ancient stone farmhouse among olives and Mediterranean
spot, the natural word for “iron vein”, which is now a remarkable farmhouse.
